I haven’t tried this in Win8. Have you tested it and confirmed it does not work?

Oh, and don’t kill dogs. They don’t deserve your ire. Kill mosquitoes. Think about it: if they were to suddenly go extinct, would there be a single notable negative consequence? It’s the only creature I can imagine yearning for its extinction. Fucking mosquitoes.

Update:

I was not able to import the key using the usual method. I’ll have to look into that. I was able to right-click in the correct location in the Registry Editor and create a new key (dword), name it as outlined above, and give it a value of zero.

I’m not clear how to test this since I’m not clear at what juncture Windows might attempt to create a Desktop.ini file. If this method fails, perhaps the solution is using a qword instead?

James, thanks so much, the Windows key did the trick for me. Truly astounding, weird condition, where the same 3 keys stop operating for people for no apparent reason, and can then be fixed so simply, but unintuitively. In my case, they stopped operating only in Outlook.

I think this all ties in with Micro$oft$ new Fugly Strategy ™ Seriously, the marketing guru’s all smoked em peace em pipe and must have thought, what’s the best way we can shake up the foundation of our existing customer base and shift the focus away from Apple? Fugliness++ ad nauseum. Without doubt it amazes me how they can keep repackaging the same core office system in a new wrapper and get away with it. The Fugliness++ ™ strategy has done a good job of subverting this fact, the ribbon remember?. What was once: Open word, File–>Open–>Explorer GUI, is now: Open word, Open other documents–>Computer–>Browse–>Explorer GUI

They did this with the system tray clock in the way back machine if yawl remember.
The core components are one and the same, they have fkuced with the interface and said ‘Office XXXX’. What special new features have they added that could simply not have been add-ins? Sky Drive? surely that can be an add-in? Nah nothing really, WYSIWYG.

I laugh stupidly haha

Looks like Microsoft has decided to augment some of the new Windows 8 features with, you know, pre-Windows 8 functionality. Read it here. We shall see what comes of it.
